Areas Of Support

DIVORCE
Clear, practical guidance to help you understand the divorce process and make informed decisions at every stage.

CONTESTED FINANCES
Support with financial disclosure, preparation, and understanding realistic outcomes, particularly in complex cases.

CONSENT ORDERS
A Financial Consent Order is a legally binding court order that records the financial agreement reached between divorcing spouses. It sets out how assets, property, pensions, savings, debts and any ongoing maintenance will be divided following divorce. Once approved by a judge, it becomes legally enforceable. Importantly, even if you have reached an agreement amicably, that agreement is not legally binding unless it is formalised within a Consent Order and approved by the court. Without one, financial claims can remain open, even years after divorce putting future assets at risk.

CHILD ARRANGEMENTS
Calm, child-focused support to help you prepare for discussions or court proceedings with clarity and confidence.

NON MOLESTATION & OCCUPATION ORDERS
If you are experiencing harassment, threats, or controlling behaviour, the court can provide urgent protection. A Non-Molestation Order can prevent contact, intimidation or abuse, while an Occupation Order can regulate who remains in or returns to the family home.

Why Work With a McKenzie Friend?
Navigating divorce and family court proceedings can be challenging, and having the right support can make a significant difference. While solicitors provide legal advice and representation, many people find the costs prohibitive and the process overwhelming, particularly if they are already managing the emotional and practical pressures of separation.
Many of my clients are representing themselves in family court and need someone experienced to explain the process, help them prepare properly, and support them through hearings and financial negotiations. Working with a McKenzie Friend allows you to remain in control of your own case, while receiving clear, practical guidance at each stage.
This can help reduce both stress and costs, while also helping you feel more prepared, organised and confident when dealing with court proceedings. Unlike traditional legal services, I provide continuity and accessibility, so you have consistent support throughout your case without the worry of mounting hourly fees. My focus is on helping you stay organised, steady, and in control during what is often a very difficult time.
How I Can Support You
As a McKenzie Friend, I do not act as a solicitor or barrister, and do not represent you in court. My role is to support you quietly and practically while you remain responsible for your own case. For many people, having calm, experienced support alongside them throughout the process makes a significant difference not only to their case, but to how they cope with the process as a whole.
I can help by:
-
explaining what to expect at each stage of the court process
-
understanding your position and factors the court considers in reaching a decision
-
helping you prepare paperwork, statements, and evidence
-
organising documents and court bundles
-
offering guidance on how to present your case clearly
-
attending court with you for note-taking, quiet assistance, and emotional support
-
helping you negotiate outside the courtroom
Support is designed to help you feel more confident and prepared, particularly during hearings.
Beyond the courtroom I provide a confidential, non-judgmental space to talk things through and give clear, practical guidance outside of the scope of a solicitor. Because I can remain involved throughout proceedings, you benefit from continuity and a clear overview of your situation, rather than having to repeatedly explain your circumstances to different professionals.
This includes:
-
helping you understand your position and available options
-
supporting preparation and planning at each stage
-
helping you approach discussions and negotiations calmly
-
offering consistent support throughout your case
Calm, Consistent Support Throughout
Court proceedings can be stressful and emotionally draining. My aim is to provide steady, reliable support so you are not navigating the process alone or reacting under pressure.
Whether you are self-representing or working with solicitors but want additional guidance, working with a McKenzie Friend and Divorce Consultant can help you feel more confident, prepared, and in control at every stage in a cost-effective way.
